Stage 05 of 08
Brand Identity and Experience
Translate the strategy into a coherent identity, voice and customer experience.
Objective
Make the positioning visible and tangible: name, visual identity, tone of voice and the key moments of the customer experience should all express the same idea.
Why it matters
Customers judge a brand by every touchpoint, not only by the logo. Consistency builds recognition and trust; inconsistency makes even a good strategy look uncertain.
Important questions
- Does the identity express the positioning, or only personal taste?
- How should the brand sound when it writes and speaks?
- What are the most important moments in the customer journey?
- Where does the experience currently contradict the promise?
Practical checklist
- Brief the identity work from the positioning, not from a mood board.
- Define tone of voice with “we are / we are not” examples.
- Map the customer journey from first contact to repeat purchase.
- Fix the touchpoints that contradict the brand promise first.
- Document the basics so others can apply them consistently.
Deliverables and tools
- Journey map
- Stages, customer goals, touchpoints, friction and opportunities in one view.
- Voice chart
- Three to four traits, each with do and don’t examples.
Common mistakes
- Starting with a logo before the strategy is clear.
- Polishing visuals while the actual experience disappoints.
- Creating guidelines nobody uses.
You are ready to move on when…
- Someone new could create on-brand material from your guidelines.
- The biggest friction points in the customer journey are known and prioritised.
